Brendan “Bookie” Radley-Hiles – Top Gun 7v7 Player of the Year

Pro Way Training

Brendan “Bookie” Radley-Hiles has been selected as the Top Gun 7v7 top corner back and overall Player of the Year. Radley-Hiles plays 7v7 for nationally ranked Pro Way in California and for IMG Academy in Bradenton Florida.

Top Gun 7v7 was able to catch up with Bookie and Coach Darick to discuss 7v7, ProWay and his senior year at IMG Academy.

Bookie’s take on 7v7: “7v7 has helped my game a lot.  As a corner back it forces you to be technically sound.  You have to rely on your ball skills because you can not use your pads to break up the pass.  It is all fun competing against the best players from all over the country.”

Bookie’s take on ProWay:  “ProWay is more than 7v7.  ProWay is a family.  Coach (Darick Holmes) treats us all like family.  We play together, eat together, train together, camp together.  We are one big family.  It is so much bigger than just 7v7.  Most of us have grown up playing with or against each other.  That is a big reason why we are so hard to beat.  We spend a lot of time together traveling.  ProWay is a big part of the player that I am today.”

Bookie’s take on IMG Academy: “I am excited about playing my senior year at IMG.  It was an easy decision because Brian (Brian Hightower) and TJ (T. J. Pledger) decided to go play at IMG with me.  It was almost like a group decision.  Having my ProWay team mates make it feel like home while I am in Florida. Competing against Brian and T.J. have made me a better player because they are great players.  I get better from practicing against the best.”

Coach Holmes take on Bookie:  “Bookie has always been an exciting player to coach.  He reminds me a lot of the Tyrann Mathews because of his ability to impact the game.  I try to share with these boys about football and about life.  I pour into them everything I have a give it to them real.  I tell them about every mistake I have made so that they can have the most successful future possible.”

Devin Thompson – Top Gun 7v7 Tight End of the Year

Devin Thompson has been selected as the Top Gun 7v7  Tight End of the Year. Thompson plays 7v7 for nationally ranked Elite 3 in Tennessee and for Station Camp High School in Gallatin Tennessee.  Thompson caught the attention of Top Gun 7v7 after catching an amazing 18 touchdowns in  one tournament.  The 6’4 and 229 lb. TE/RCV is a serious match up problem.

How has 7v7 helped you as a football player?  7v7 has helped tremendously, especially with my physicality, technique and route running skills. Also putting me against some of the best players in TN ,and in some of the best tournaments around the country its really getting me ready for a higher level football.

How has 7v7 helped your recruitment process? It has helped a lot, its so much exposure and really gives you a chance to show your skill. There is always media  at these tournaments and they are always watching so why not show them what I can do in person. Now with me going to these tournaments and scoring so much and playing good it puts my name out there just to get there attention focused in me and start looking into the recruiting process. Also with the pleasure of having a great coach like Riley Howard at Elite 3, he makes sure that he is getting your name in with the coaches so we can show them what we do.

How is your recruitment going? Well prior to this years 7v7 season I had one small college looking at me. Now that I have been able to do good things and get my name out, I have almost all the major schools in this state and region asking me to come camp and really excited to see me, also a couple FCS like Illinois State have also started the recruiting process with me.

What was it like dominating an event and scoring 18 touchdowns in one tournament? It was an awesome feeling being able to do that. With two great quarterbacks like Xavier Sheppard( Pearl Cohn ) and John Bachus( Giles County ) its really run just dominating defenses like we did. We did not do very well qualifying and I was honestly mad on how we played the first 4 games with me only having like 8 total touchdowns, so I talked with my QBs and just told them look I’m open just throw me the ball and they did. First round game had 2 TDs, second round 2 the 3 round round I had a total of 5 and the championship I had 1. But I believe I can do it every tournament with the star power on our team so be on the look out

What are your plans for the summer? My plans are go do well at these camps. I want to get all the offers i can by showing out at camps and really impressing the coaches.

What are your plans for your senior year? With a new stud QB( Max Barnett ) coming up this year I think I’m going to have a very good season. I will be lining up as X receiver and TE and I feel I will be in position to really show people my skill and really hurt some defenses. We have good coaches and a good senior class coming up so I’m excited to see what happens.

Thomson’s Hudl

Although the 7v7 season is over for Thompson, Top Gun 7v7 will keep you updated on his development.
